Drafted by the Cougars in the 1st round, 10th overall in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft...Played his first Western Hockey League game for the Cougars December 12, 2007 against the Medicine Hat Tigers...Scored his first goal and point on opening night, September 19, 2008 against the Seattle Thunderbirds, getting a goal and two assists...First WHL hat trick came November 1 against the Kamloops Blazers.  Had another hat trick February 13 at Chilliwack...Led the Cougars in scoring in 2008-09 with 30 and 60 points, both Cougars rookie records...Named the Cougars MVP and top rookie and went on to win the WHL and CHL rookie of the year awards, the first time a Cougars freshman had a accomplished the feat...Led Team Pacific in scoring with three goals and five assists in six games at the 2009 World Under 17 Challenge in Port Alberni, coming home with the silver medal...Scored six points in six games and was the youngest member of Team Canada at the 2009 World Under-18 Championship in Fargo, ND and Moorehead, MN.  Canada finished fourth...Recorded an assist in the championship game for Canada in winning the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament in 2009 in the Czech Republic and Slovakie...Named Assistant Captain of the Cougars September 15, 2009...Prior to joining the Cougars, Connolly helped the Cariboo Cougars win the BC Major Midget AAA Hockey League Championship and scored 16 goals and 32 points in 38 games.
