News 2008-09Jun 27 2009Viedensky Chosen By San JosePrince George, BC – Prince George Cougars forward Marek Viedensky is now a Shark, after San Jose drafted Viedensky in the 7th round (189th overall) of the NHL entry draft at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. In his first season as a Cougar in 2008-09, Viedensky finished tied for third in team scoring with 16 goals and 40 points in 59 games and added two goals in four playoff games. Viedensky, who stands 6’4” and weighs 185 pounds, also suited up for Slovakia at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa, Ontario, where he finished with four assists in seven games, helping Slovakia finish fourth in the tournament. Viedensky is the Sharks fourth pick in the ’09 draft and the first Cougar to be selected in the NHL entry draft since Dana Tyrell went to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round (47th overall) in 2007. Viedensky also becomes the third European drafted from the Prince George Cougars, joining Ronald Petrovicky (’96, Cal) and Martin Hohenberger (’95, Mon). |
