Scotiabank Breakaway for BooksNews 2008-09Oct 28 2008Scotiabank Breakaway for BooksPRINCE GEORGE, BC- Students at Ron Brent Elementary will be the first to participate in the Scotiabank Breakaway for Books reading program. On Thursday, October 30th from 11:00 until 11:45am several Cougars players will visit Jodee Sayle’s classroom where they will read to the grade three students and discuss their own experiences with reading. The partnership between the Prince George Cougars and Scotiabank is new this season. With the generous support of Scotiabank, each classroom visited will now receive a copy of the book “Brady Brady and the Puck on the Pond,” along with bookmarks for each student. Following each visit the classroom teacher will set reading goals; students who meet those goals will receive tickets to an upcoming Cougars game. “The Prince George Cougars have always recognized the value of education, and of setting goals on and off the ice,” said Cougars Business Manager, Brandi Brodsky. “Like Scotiabank, the Cougars have a vested interest in the development and recognition of local youth. We are very pleased that they have decided to partner with us in this initiative.” “Scotiabank is very excited to partner with the Prince George Cougars to bring this program to our elementary schools,” said Mike Rochon of Scotiabank. “The Breakaway for Books program is a great way to combine hockey and learning. It shows the kids the importance of learning and the enjoyment of reading and does it in a hockey setting that they will respond to. It’s just one more way Scotiabank celebrates the foundations of hockey and helps add richness to the lives of Canadians.” |
