Zalasky Leads Team Alberta to Centennial Challenge Win
Lloydminster, AB- Hometown product Lee Zalasky led Team Alberta to a 7-5 victory over Team Saskatchewan in the 2005 Centennial Challenge at the Lloydminster Civic Centre last night.
The 21-year-old, four-year WHL veteran and Lloydminster native scored twice and added an assist for the Albertans and earned himself a new flat screen TV for being selected team MVP.
Kyle Bailey also tallied twice for the Albertans, skating on a dangerous line with fellow Portland Winter Hawks teammates Brian Woolger and Alex Aldred. Mark Fistric of the Vancouver Giants and Jonathan Filewich of the Lethbridge Hurricanes also tallied for the Albertans in the victory.
Kamloops Blazer Devan Dubnyk and Swift Current’s Kyle Moir split netminding duties for Team Alberta with Dubnyk allowing two first-period markers, and Moir allowing three in a hectic third period.
Winter Hawks forward Dan DaSilva led Team Saskatchewan with a goal and two assists, earning team MVP honors for his efforts.
Moose Jaw forwards Justin Scott and Blair Jones, Spokane’s Joe Logan, and Swift Current Bronco Luke Hunter also scored for Team Saskatchewan, who came back to make it close after trailing 5-2 after the first period.
Moose Jaw netminder Josh Lepp played the first half of the game for Team Saskatchewan, allowing six goals, while Saskatoon Blades goaltender Russel Monette saw action in the second half, holding the Albertans to only one goal.
