Blatchford Selected By SilvertipsNews 2002-03Jun 4 2003Blatchford Selected By SilvertipsThe Prince George Cougars Hockey Club would like to announce that the expansion draft to build the ranks of the Everett Silvertips has been completed. The first-year club chose from the Cougars defenseman Ryan Blatchford. Blatchford came to the Cougars last season from the Spokane Chiefs. In 55 games he scored 2 goals, 7 assists and 76 penalty minutes. He was one of only three Cougars to rank above even (+1) on the season’s plus/minus sheet. “I think the Silvertips got a good player in Ryan, and a very good young man,” says Cougars General Manager Daryl Lubiniecki.
The expansion draft allowed each WHL team a player protection quota, leaving several players on their roster exposed to the draft. Everett could chose up to one player from any given team.
