Draft Day: Four Rounds Are CompleteNews 2002-03May 1 2003Draft Day: Four Rounds Are CompleteFrom the Saddledome in Calgary, the WHLs 2003 Bantam Draft is going on right this moment. Earlier in the day the Cougars used their first pick to snap up gifted offensive forward Tyler Swystun, sixth overall. That was just the opening maneuver. Now rounds two through five are complete and the Cougars have continued to build for the future. In round two the Cougars selected Comox, B.C. native Ty Wishart, a 64 defenseman who weighs in at 180 and patrolled the blueline for the Comox Chiefs last season. He comes to the Cougars as the #24 pick overall. He is a strong, physical player with a heavy shot and an edge in his on-ice attitude. The Cougars, due to trades, enjoyed a pair of picks in the third round. They used them to pick up a pair of tall face-off men At #44 overall the Cats picked up Evan Fuller, a 61 centre from 150 Mile House, B.C. with a lot of offensive talent. At #47 the Cougars took Kurtis Bosecke, a 61 power forward from Sherwood Park, Alberta who likes to rush the puck with force. In the fourth round the Cats went south of the border, choosing 62 American defenseman Brett Kamalski from Whitter, California with huge upside potential. He came in at #64 overall and could be a dominant blueliner in years to come. There is plenty more to come from the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary, so follow the Cougars as they gather talent at the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft. |
