Cougars Continue to Support the Community in 2009-10 Season

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars are very proud of their involvement in the community. Part of the team’s mission as an organization is to provide good citizenry off the ice; the players have lived up to that mission in the 2009/2010 season, spending nearly 500 hours in the community supporting non-profit organizations, schools and sponsors. Local Cougars to Help Raise Money for Local Kids On Community Day

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- While the 2009/2010 season has come to an end for the Prince George Cougars, the Cats are still active in the community this month as they team up with Famous Players and Northern Health to raise money for local kids on Community Day. Famous Players will show five free movies to benefit the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Canada on Saturday, March 27^th, with showtimes beginning at 9am.

Regular popcorn and regular drinks will be $2 each with all proceeds going to support the Foundation. In turn, the Starlight Children’s Foundation will work directly with Northern Health to use the funds in the University Hospital of Northern BC Paediatrics Unit. Bracelets will be sold for $2 with funds also going to the Paediatrics Unit and families are encouraged to bring donations of small change.

Local players will attend the event at Famous Players Prince George Cinemas on 15^th Avenue and will be available for autographs and photos before the shows begin. Families can look forward to entertainment by magician Ben Gibson, face-painting, clowns and a visit from Rowdy Cat.

Rogers Sportsnet Debuts "The Rookies" Friday

Prince George, BC – The television debut of the feature show “The Rookies” will air on Rogers Sportsnet West at 2:00pm Pacific time and Rogers Sportsnet East at 5:30pm PT tomorrow. The show will air for the first time on Rogers Sportsnet Pacific on Saturday at 2:00pm.

“The Rookies”, produced by Rat Films and airing on Rogers Sportsnet nationally, follows the progress of six Cougars rookies looking to make the opening night line-up of the Prince George Cougars for the 2009-10 season. Some of the players that are followed through the training camp process include current Cougars defencemen Jesse Forsberg and Daniel Gibb and forward Brock Hirsche.

“It was really exciting for all of us in the Cougars organization to have “The Rookies” production crew follow our young players at training camp,” said Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky. “We have already had a sneak peek at part of the show and it looks terrific. We hope Cougars fans will enjoy this all access look at the club from the moment the players arrive at camp.”

Connolly Returns Tuesday, Bourke Called Up

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that forward Brett Connolly will return to the Cougars line-up when the Cougars host the Chilliwack Bruins on Tuesday, March 9. The club also announced Monday that 15-year old forward Troy Bourke will join the team for the remainder of the season.

Connolly, the 2008-09 CHL Rookie of the Year, has not played since December 5 because of a hip injury. This season, Connolly has played in 12 games, recording seven goals and six assists. On January 11, Connolly was ranked fourth on NHL Central Scouting’s Mid-Term Rankings of North American skaters eligible for the 2010 NHL Draft.

Bourke was the Cougars second pick in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, going 26^th overall. The forward from Spruce Grove, Alberta, finished second in scoring in the Alberta Major Midget Hockey League this past season, recording 53 points, including a league high 27 goals. Bourke, who stands 5’10” and weighs 150 pounds, has played one game for the Cougars this season, when he suited up against the Edmonton Oil Kings on February 20 in Edmonton.

Bourke becomes the fourth call-up to join the Cougars for the remainder of the season, joining forwards Carter Rigby and Wilson Dumais and defenceman Josh Smith. Rigby, selected by the Cougars in the eighth round of the ’09 WHL Bantam Draft, scored his first WHL goal against the Everett Silvertips on March 6 at CN Centre, while Wilson Dumais, listed by the Cougars prior to the start of the season, collected his first two WHL points with assists that night. Smith, the Cougars first round pick in the ’09 Draft, also earned his first WHL point with an assist against the Silvertips Saturday.

2nd Annual Clean Out The Closet Game Next Wednesday vs. Chilliwack

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Cougars invite fans to bring donations of gently used clothing and household items to CN Centre as the Cougars play their final home game of the season against the Chilliwack Bruins on Wednesday, March 10^th.

Items will be collected on behalf of The Salvation Army as part of the 2^nd Annual Clean Out The Closet game. Donations will be used to support local Salvation Army programs.

Fans will also have the chance to win giveaways as the Cougars clean out the promo closet.

“This game was a huge success last season and we are looking forward to great fan support again this year,” said Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky. “Fans who are doing their spring cleaning can save themselves a trip by bringing their donations directly to the game.”

Also that evening the Cougars will be presenting the team awards for Most Valuable Player, Most Dedicated Player, Rookie of the Year, Scholastic Player of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

In addition, the player to receive the most cumulative fan votes this season for the Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Month poll will be presented with a hand-made 14kt yellow and white gold ring adorned with the Cougars logo, courtesy of Darrell Hubbell.

Tour Your Own Town Friday At Cougars Home Game vs. Everett

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- Cougars want to remind fans to check out the best of Prince George at the “Tour Your Own Town” game on March 5^thduring the final Friday game of the season. Various local and regional attractions will host interactive booths on the concourse throughout the evening.

Barkerville Historic Town, The Exploration Place, Fort St. James National Historic Site, Huble Homestead, Noah’s Ark Adventureland, Prince George Aquatic Centre, Prince George Public Library, The Railway and Forestry Museum and Studio 2880 are confirmed to attend. Each booth will offer information and the opportunity for children and families to experience the attractions on a small scale.

That evening Prince George’s Miss Teen Northern British Columbia, Hannah Schlitt, will participate in a ceremonial puck drop. Schlitt recently attended the Miss Teen Canada - World Regional Pageant in Kelowna, BC, where she placed 2^nd Runner Up. In July, she will attend the National Miss Teen Canada Pageant in Toronto.

Season ticket holders are also invited to come early to Friday’s game for the unique chance to enjoy a pregame skate on home ice. The ice will be open to season ticket holders from 4:30-5:30pm, with Cougars players on the bench signing autographs from 4:30-5:00pm.

Spencer Asuchak Voted Cougars Player Of The Month

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- #14 Spencer Asuchak took the majority of fan votes as the Cougars Most Valuable Player between January 19^th and February 23^rd. Asuchak will join Darrell Hubbell on the red carpet at Wednesday’s game as he is named the Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Month.

Asuchak, who the Cougars acquired from the Tri-City Americans in November, is among the Cougars leading scorers in February, with two goals and three assists for five points. Asuchak began the month with a two point game against the Edmonton Oil Kings on February 5, which saw the 6’4”, 210 pounder from Kamloops score his first game winning goal as a Cougar. Since joining the Cougars, Asuchak has seven goals and 10 assists in 36 games.

Each month the Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Month, as chosen by the Prince George Cougars fans, has received a gift certificate for Shogun courtesy of Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths. The player to earn the most cumulative votes in 2009/2010 will be presented with a one of a kind, handmade Darrell Hubbell original Prince George Cougars ring at the final regular season game. Voting will remain open until March 9^th, at which time all cumulative votes will be added; the Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Year will be announced at the final game of the season on March 10^th.

The Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest Winner Drawn

Prince George, BC – Rob Braaten and his family will have the biggest game on the block this season when they play host to members of the Prince George Cougars in College Heights. The Braaten’s are the local winners of The Home Depot Back Yard Rink contest, a nationwide contest that celebrates fans who take the time to support the great Canadian tradition of building backyard rinks.

Rob Braaten’s name was pulled from a ballot box that had all the names of contestants who entered the draw from the opening day of the contest, January 13. Members of the Prince George Cougars will join the Braaten family and invited guests on Monday, February 15 starting at 5:00pm for a game of shinny on the Braaten family’s back yard rink.

Cougars To Open Doors Early Friday Night

Prince George, BC – Fans attending the Cougars home game against the Portland Winterhawks on Friday, February 12, will get a chance to see more than just exciting Cougars action.

The Cougars are opening their doors 15 minutes early, at 6:00pm, to allow fans the opportunity to watch the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games on the CN Centre score board, as time allows.

“We wanted to give our fans a chance to witness such a special evening in Canadian sports and British Columbia history, without missing great Cougars action,” said Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky. “We will broadcast the ceremonies on the score clock throughout the evening as our game presentation will permit.”

Cougars Invite Fans to Mascot Mania

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – Mania will descend one week from tonight as mascots invade CN Centre on Friday, February 5^th 2010. Mascots will be joining fans in the stands as the Cougars take on the Edmonton Oil Kings with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.

Rowdy Cat, Buckles from the Red Cross, Bonhomme, Digger & Bones, Sergeant Safety Dog, The Great A&W Root Bear, Red Robin, the College Heights Secondary School Cougar, and the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil are some of the mascots confirmed to participate in the Cougars Annual Mascot Mania Event.

Don’t miss the second intermission when the mascots will be facing off against each other in an on ice soccer match!

Hockey In Heels Returns February 13

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Cougars invite female hockey fans to attend the Cougars’ Second Annual Hockey in Heels evening on Saturday, February 13^th. The pre-game event begins at 5pm and will be open to the first 250 female ticket holders (19+) at the CN Centre’s Ice Lounge. Sponsored by 94X, Hockey in Heels reaches out to female fans.

94X and The Wolf’s Sports Director, Hartley Miller, will be on hand to discuss his role as a sports reporter in the community. Feisty females are welcome to practise their shots in the shooting area with tips from 94x DJ’s. In addition, members of the PG Women’s Recreational Hockey League will host a Hockey 101 Discussion on the basics of the game.

The woman with the “Hottest Heels” will leave with an autographed Cougars replica jersey. Snacks will be provided courtesy of Eurest and the bar will be open for those who wish to purchase refreshments.

Fans Select Nick Buonassisi January Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Month

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- #12 Nick Buonassisi earned 50% of over 1400 fan votes to grab the top spot as Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Month for January 2010. Buonassisi was trailed closely by #14 Spencer Asuchak, who received 448 fan votes.

Buonassisi had two goals and four assists in January, including one multi point game against the Kelowna Rockets last Saturday. Buonassisi has nine goals this season, which ranks fourth on the Cougars, and he's tied for fifth in points with 17.

“Nick is starting to find his stride and has begun to produce offensively since the Christmas break” said General Manager Dallas Thompson.

Buonassisi will be honoured during a red carpet presentation at tonight’s game versus the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Each month the Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Month, as chosen by the Prince George Cougars fans, will receive a gift certificate for Shogun courtesy of Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths. Cougars Sign Prospect Carter Rigby

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Wednesday that the Cougars have signed 15-year old forward Carter Rigby to a standard Western Hockey League contract.

Rigby was the Cougars sixth pick in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, selected in the eighth round, 158^th overall. This season, Rigby has 54 goals and 33 assists for 87 points in 48 games for the Midget AAA Penticton Vees. Rigby, who stands 6’0” and weighs 200 pounds, also has 121 penalty minutes. Last season in Bantam AAA, Rigby had 67 goals and 120 points in 47 games.

“This is another important piece for the Cougars future and we’re very pleased to have Carter sign with us,” said Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson. “Carter uses his size very well and has shown that he’s got solid finish around the net.”

Rigby will play his first Western Hockey League game for the Cougars on Friday, January 29 in Kelowna.

Cougars Open House On Monday, February 8

Prince George, BC - The Prince George Cougars will be hosting their 4^th Annual “Open House” on Monday, February 8 from 5:00pm-6:00pm at the CN Centre.

The CN Centre will be open to the general public and fans will have an opportunity to go behind the scenes of the arena…from the Cougars usually private dressing room, to General Manager Dallas Thompson and Vice President Brandi Brodsky’s offices, where they will be available to chat. Also, all players and coaches will be in the dressing room to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

The Cougars Bus will be available for viewing, and fans will have a chance to meet Rowdy Cat. Ron St. Clair, the voice of the Cougars, will be in the broadcast booth to give fans an opportunity to see the game from his perspective while demonstrating what goes on during a Cougars broadcast. The City will also display the Zamboni and fans will have the chance to see themselves projected on the score clock. Snacks will be provided by Eurest Food Services, the official food supplier of the CN Centre.

New Agreement Between Cougars and City of Prince George

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars, in partnership with the City of Prince George, are pleased to announce a new lease agreement has been reached which will see the Cougars remain in Prince George for the next decade.

Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky announced Wednesday that the Cougars and the City of Prince George have agreed to a new 10-year lease which will see the Cougars continue playing home games at CN Centre.

“This is a very proud day for the Cougars and we’re very excited to continue to provide residents of Prince George and the surrounding area with world class junior hockey,” said Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky.

The Cougars moved to Prince George in 1994 from Victoria and have been the primary tenant of CN Centre since 1995, making 2009-10 the 15^th season the Cougars have called CN Centre home.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the City for their cooperation in helping this new agreement come to fruition,” said Cougars President Rick Brodsky. “We have all gone through some tough times lately but I believe that the City and the Cougars will both thrive in this new decade. Our goal continues to be to provide exciting hockey and to make the citizens proud of us. We have a plan and are sticking to it. With young stars like Connolly and Forsberg the future looks very bright. I would like to thank our sponsors and fans for their support and you have our promise that the best is yet to come.”

“This is great news for our community and for the many who have supported the Cougars since their arrival in 1994,” said Mayor Dan Rogers. “We believe in the long term sustainability of this organization, and have reached an agreement that ensures the Cougars will continue to be an integral part of our community for years to come.”

“I would be remiss if I did not pay a special thanks to Tom Madden,” added Mr. Brodsky. “He and I go back to the beginning. He was instrumental in the Cougars coming to Prince George and has been involved in every lease agreement since. Thanks for all your help Tom.”

“We have secured a long term tenant in the CN Centre, which will strive to continuously provide high entertainment value for our region,” finished Rogers. “We value our corporate relationship and look forward to many great years ahead.”

Haiti Earthquake Aid From Cougars and Their Fans

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that along with our fans, over two thousand dollars was raised for aid relief efforts in Haiti Saturday night.

Fans had the opportunity at last Saturday’s game against the Vancouver Giants to make a donation to the relief effort in Haiti, which totaled $1,064. With the Cougars doubling that amount, the Canadian Red Cross will receive a total of $2,128. Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky will present a cheque to the Canadian Red Cross prior to Friday night’s game against the Kelowna Rockets, starting at 7:00.

“The Cougars are very fortunate to have such passionate fans, not only for hockey, but for the well being of everyone, no matter where in the world they live,” said Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky. “We’re pleased that we could help with the tireless relief efforts in Haiti.”

“The public and corporate response to the Haiti Earthquake has been overwhelming. It is the support of individuals and organizations such as the Prince George Cougars hockey team that the Canadian Red Cross has raised 33.7 million dollars to date,” said Becky Row, Regional Operations Manager with the Canadian Red Cross Society. “These funds will go to support emergency relief efforts such as providing medical support, clean water, food and shelter. THANK YOU to the organizers and all of the donors who attended the Cougars game last Saturday evening for their donation to the Haiti Earthquake response.”

2010 The Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest Launch

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars, in partnership with The Home Depot, are proud to announce the launch of the 2010 Backyard Rink Contest.

The contest offers outdoor rink makers the chance to face off against members of the Prince George Cougars in their own backyard. Last year, the Shaw family from the Hart was the local winner in the Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest- a nationwide event executed in several different markets.

Cougars Help Celebrate Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars are proud to announce our participation in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay!

On Wednesday, January 27, the Cougars will host the Medicine Hat Tigers, which will include a puck dropping ceremony in celebration of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. The event will feature a number of guests including several torchbearers selected by Coca-Cola and RBC who will carry the Olympic Flame as it passes through our community.

Prince George will officially welcome the Olympic Flame on January 29. An evening celebration is being planned featuring live entertainment, special guests and a cauldron lighting ceremony.

Goaltender Kyle Jahraus Picked Up By Cougars

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Sunday the Cougars have acquired 19-year old goaltender Kyle Jahraus from the Seattle Thunderbirds, in exchange for 18-year old forward Robbie Ciolfi.

Jahraus has played five games for the Thunderbirds during the 2009-10 season. Jahraus, a 5’11”, 160 pound product of Saskatoon, SK, has a record of 2-1-0-0 this season, with a 5.28 goals against average and an .850 save percentage. Jahraus also played two games for the Tri-City Americans in the 2006-07 season.

Ciolfi played a total of 55 games for the Cougars over the last two seasons, with four goals and eight assists for 12 points.

Cougars Acquire Prospect and Picks From Saskatoon For Viedensky

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars have dealt 19-year old import forward Marek Viedensky to the Saskatoon Blades, in exchange for 15-year old goalie Tyler Santos, a third round pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft and a conditional third round pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.

Santos was the Blades tenth selection in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, taken in the 10^th round, 218^th overall. Santos is currently playing for the Sherwood Park Kings of the Alberta Major Midget Hockey League.

Viedensky leaves the Cougars after playing in 88 career games, with 28 goals and 32 assists over that time. The Cougars thank Marek for his service to the Cougars both on and off the ice and wish him future success.

Cougars Add Defenceman Senkerik From Kootenay

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Sunday the Cougars have acquired 18-year old import defenceman Petr Senkerik from the Kootenay Ice. The Ice get the Cougars fifth round pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft in return.

Senkerik, a 5’11”, 178 pounder from Zlin, Czech Republic, is in his first season in the Western Hockey League. In 36 games for Kootenay this season, Senkerik has four goals and seven assists, while posting 13 penalty minutes.

Halliday A Cougar Again

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Sunday the Cougars have acquired 20-year old forward Tyler Halliday and a third round pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft from the Kelowna Rockets. In exchange, the Cougars dealt 20-year old defenceman Dallas Jackson to the Rockets.

Halliday returns to the Cougars after being acquired by the Rockets in November. Halliday played a total of 85 games for the Cougars, including 19 at the start of the 2009-10 season. Halliday has seven goals and 10 assists in 40 games this season.

Jackson, who the Cougars acquired prior to the 2008-09 season, heads to Kelowna after playing a total of 86 games for the Cougars. Jackson was the Cougars leading scorer this year, with 11 goals and 29 points.

The Cougars thank Jackson for his service to the team both on and off the ice and wish him future success.

Fans Vote Brock Hirsche As December Player Of The Month

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - #10 Brock Hirsche earned nearly 40% of 400 fan votes to grab the top spot as Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Month for December 2009. The forward had three goals and four assists in December, with a point in three of the Cougars four wins this month. He currently leads the team in rookie scoring with 8 goals and 16 points.

Hirsche is from Lethbridge, AB, and was the Cougars second pick, 32nd overall in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.

“Hirsche has excellent leadership skills,” said General Manager Dallas Thompson. “He is a tireless worker, excellent student and citizen.”

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – Local minor hockey teams have a chance to practice with the Cougars when they bring their families and friends to Minor Hockey Night on Friday, January 15^th. The team to purchase the most group tickets for that night’s Cougars game with the Vancouver Giants will be joined by the Cougars’ captains at an upcoming practice.

Cougars Add Forward Clarke Breitkreuz

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Monday the addition of 18-year old forward Clarke Breitkreuz to the Cougars roster. Breitkreuz played his first game in a Cougars uniform Sunday night in Kamloops.

Breitkreuz started the season with the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, collecting 6 goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 30 games this season. The 6’0”, 173 pound product of Springside, SK, played for Canada West during the 2009 World Junior A Challenge in Summerside, PEI, in early November, collecting one goal in five games, helping Canada West earn a silver medal.

Breitkreuz played 20 Western Hockey League games last season with the Regina Pats, posting two assists. The addition of Breitkreuz brings the Cougars roster to 24 players, with 14 forwards, eight defencemen and two goaltenders.

Brett Connolly Headed To Top Prospects Game In January

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars forward Brett Connolly will be one of 40 players to take part in the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Windsor, ON, beginning with a skills competition on Tuesday, January 19, followed by the game on Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

Connolly, one of 13 Western Hockey League players chosen to take part in the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, will suit up for Team Orr against Team Cherry. The contest features 40 of the top prospects eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft from across the Canadian Hockey League. In November, NHL Central Scouting ranked Connolly first among WHL skaters in its fall preliminary rankings. This season, Connolly has seven goals and six assists in 12 games for the Cougars. Connolly was a member of Team WHL during the Subway Super Series against Team Russia, playing in the November 27 game in Kelowna.

The 17-year old Connolly was last year’s CHL Rookie of the Year and attended the World Under-17 Challenge in Port Alberni, BC, in January, 2009. Connolly also represented Canada at the World Under-18 Championship in Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota in April and at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament in August.

“It’s a great honour that they consider me one of the top prospects,” said Connolly. “I’d like to be able to show people where I’m at against the best draft eligible players in the country.”

Connolly added, “It’ll be stiff competition, for sure. I’ve had a chance to play with a couple of guys from Ontario and there are great players in Quebec and of course in our league as well. It’s a great measuring stick for me and I’m looking forward to the chance to play in the game.”

Cougars Add Jason Becker To Coaching Staff

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced today the Cougars have hired 35-year old Jason Becker to be an Assistant Coach with the club.

Jason, originally from Saskatoon, SK, is a former defenceman who spent five seasons as a player in the Western Hockey League with Saskatoon, Red Deer, Kamloops and Swift Current. Jason was named Captain of the Broncos in his final junior year in 1994-95. Jason played 221 regular season games in the WHL, with 28 goals and 55 assists for 83 points, while totaling 82 penalty minutes. Jason spent five seasons with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Hockey team, where he won the CIS Rookie of the Year award in 1996. In 2000, Jason began playing pro hockey in Europe, with stops in Germany and Great Britain. Jason helped the Bremerhaven Penguins to back-to-back German Championships in 2001 and 2002. He also played the 2006-07 season with the Reading Royals of the ECHL before returning to Germany to finish his playing career the past two seasons.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to coach in Prince George,” said Becker. “I know, through talking with Dean Clark and Dallas Thompson, that we have a great group of kids. We just got to create a program for them to buy into and we look to make some noise in the next year or two.”

Jason will join the Cougars December 26^th in Kelowna and will be behind the Cougars bench for the first time when the Cougars face the Kamloops Blazers December 27^th in Kamloops.

“We look forward to adding a quality individual who will help our team learn and develop both on and off the ice,” said Thompson.

“Jason brings a wealth of knowledge to our players because of the time he spent as a player himself in the WHL, at the University of Saskatchewan and playing professionally,” added Head Coach Dean Clark. “I’m looking forward to working with Jason and I strongly believe he’ll help with our player’s development.”

The webcasts for Cougars road games in Kamloops, December 27 and Chilliwack, December 29, will be broadcast online at no charge on WHL Web TV.

The Cougars are proud to welcome Light Middle Weight Boxing Champion, Harold Mann, to drop the puck as they take on the Kootenay Ice that evening. Mann, a Prince George resident, won the title when he competed in the British Commonwealth Games in 1962. He also took home gold at the Canadian Amateur Boxing Championships in 1958, 1961, and 1962.

The celebration of local athletes will continue as Mayor Dan Rogers presents #8, Brett Connolly, with a gold medal from this summer’s Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Connolly played for Canada’s Summer Under-18 squad in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, getting an assist in Canada’s championship game. There were no medals presented at the tournament, but Hockey Canada has provided gold medals for the players who took part in the Ivan Hlinka Tournament, which Connolly will receive Friday.

Save-On-Foods will be on the concourse serving up samples of Campbell’s Chili. Before the game, the Cougars player with the best academic record will receive a check for $200 courtesy of Campbell’s and the Chunky Academic Achievement Award.

Fans Select Parker Stanfield Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player Of The Month For November

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- Cougars fans have chosen #26 Parker Stanfield as the Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths Player of the Month for November 2009. Stanfield, an Anaheim product, had one goal and five assists in November and is one of two Cougars to have a 3 point game so far this season. Between February 2008 and October 2009, Stanfield played in 101 consecutive games with the Cougars.

Viedensky Gets Invite To Join Slovakia At 2010 WJC

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars are proud to announce 19-year old forward Marek Viedensky will head to Saskatchewan to take part in the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship for Slovakia.

This is the second consecutive year the Slovak National Junior Under 20 team has invited Viedensky to the World Junior Championship. Viedensky had four assists in seven games at the 2009 World Junior Championship in Ottawa, helping Slovakia to a fourth place finish. Team Slovakia will have a pre-championship camp, which includes two exhibition games. The 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship will begin in Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on Saturday, December 26 and concludes on Tuesday, January 5, 2010.

“It means a lot for me to play for Slovakia again,” said Viedensky. “We’re a small country and there are not that many players in Slovakia and this is the best for me to play for Slovakia.”

In 21 games this season, Viedensky leads the Cougars in scoring with two goals and 14 assists for 16 points. Viedensky was selected in the seventh round, 189^th overall, by the San Jose Sharks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Asuchak, who turned 18 on Sunday, stands 6’4” and weighs 210 pounds. The product of Kamloops, BC, has played 50 games in the Western Hockey League, all with the Americans. This season, Asuchak has two goals and two assists for four points in 12 games for Tri-City, with 10 penalty minutes.

The Annual Cougars Christmas Campaign kicks off on Saturday, November 21^st and partners the Cougars with several organizations to collect donations of various items for those in need over the winter months.

Coats for Kids- Friday, December 4; bring a gently used child’s coat or jacket as the Cougars face off against the Kootenay Ice. The Yellowhead Rotary Club of Prince George and the Salvation Army will distribute the coats to kids in need.

SPCA Office & Cleaning Supply Drive- Friday, December 18th; pet toys, office and cleaning supplies will be collected at the game to support the local SPCA.

Active Support Against Poverty Footwear for Friends- Saturday, December 19^th; Prince George Esporta Specialty Cleaners will be collecting new and used boots and shoes, and taking them to their location to put through the Esporta clean and sanitizing program. Esporta will then distribute the items to Active Support Against Poverty.

Teddy Bear & Toque Toss- Saturday, December 19; again this year the Cougars are including toques in their annual Teddy Bear Toss. When the Cats’ score their first goal against the Kamloops Blazers Cougars fans can toss their stuffed bears and toques on the ice. The bears and toques will benefit the RCMP Victim Services Unit, the Salvation Army and other organizations in need over the holiday season.

Pair of Cougars Headed For World U-17 Challenge

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars are proud to announce that defenceman Jesse Forsberg and forward Wilson Dumais will represent Team West at the 2010 World Under-17 Challenge in Timmins, Ontario.

Forsberg has had a very impressive start to his rookie season with the Cougars. The Waldheim, Saskatchewan product is currently second in Cougars scoring with one goal and 12 assists for 13 points in 22 games. The 6’0”, 194 pound blue liner leads the Cougars with six power play assists, which has him tied for the team lead in power play points. Forsberg was the Cougars first pick in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft, taken 11^th overall.

“I was excited when I got the call from the head coach that I had made the team,” said Forsberg. “I was hoping to make the team this year after being a late cut last season, so I was really glad to find out that I did.”

Dumais leads the Tisdale Trojans of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League in scoring, with 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in 14 games this season. Those totals put the product of Southend, Saskatchewan 11^th overall in league scoring. Dumais played his first Western Hockey League game for the Cougars last Friday night in Prince Albert.

Eleven players are chosen from each of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan branches to form Team West. The World Under-17 Challenge starts December 29 and runs until January 4, 2010.

Last year, Cougars forward Brett Connolly played for Team Pacific at the event in Port Alberni, BC, where he led his team in scoring with three goals and five assists for eight points in six games, helping Pacific to a silver medal.

Connolly Ranked First Among WHL Skaters

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars forward Brett Connolly is the top player ranked among Western Hockey League skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s fall preliminary rankings. The rankings were released Tuesday listing the top Canadian Hockey League players who are eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Connolly ranks first on the 25-player list of the WHL’s top draft-eligible skaters. Connolly, a Prince George product who won the CHL’s Rookie of the Year honors last season, has four goals and six points in seven games this season for the Cougars. Last year, the 6’2”, 181 pound forward had 30 goals and 60 points to lead the Cougars in scoring and was named team MVP, the first time a Cougars rookie had won that award.

Cougars Make Roster Move

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars have made a roster move that leaves the Cougars with the league maximum three 20-year olds.

The Cougars placed forward Tyler Halliday on waivers Tuesday. The Cougars remaining overage players are defencemen Dallas Jackson and Garrett Thiessen and forward Alex Rodgers.

Halliday leaves the Cougars with three goals and seven points in 19 games this season, along with 47 penalty minutes. In 85 career games for the Cougars, Halliday posted 18 goals and 14 assists and had 208 penalty minutes.

The Cougars would like to thank Tyler for his service to the Cougars both on and off the ice and wish him the best in his future.

Former Cougars Awarded WHL Scholarships For 2009-10

Prince George, BC – A dozen Prince George Cougars alumni are currently attending post-secondary institutions courtesy of the Western Hockey League’s Scholarship program.

The WHL announced today a total of 253 WHL graduate players have been awarded WHL scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year.

This season, 106 of the 253 WHL Scholarship recipients are furthering their education while playing elite hockey in the Canada West University Hockey League of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Association. These students have combined their WHL Scholarship with additional financial assistance from their Canada West University to receive Western Canada’s Premier Hockey Scholarship.

“The WHL Scholarship continues to provide our players with an opportunity to continue their education at Universities and Colleges right here in Canada,” commented WHL Commissioner Ron Robison, “Our Clubs are fully committed to providing the most comprehensive education and scholarship program available in North America and we are delighted our graduates are taking full advantage of the opportunity to pursue their studies at a post-secondary institution of their choice.”

Three former Cougars are attending the University of Alberta; Real Cyr, Greg Gardner and Eric Hunter. Scott Bowles, Curtis Cooper and Tyler Feakes are at the University of Lethbridge, while Myles Zimmer is at the University of Saskatchewan and Jordan White attends the University of British Columbia.

Four other Cougars graduates are at Canadian Colleges, with Levi Brotnov at Red Deer College, Chris Van Duynhoven attending BCIT in Burnaby, Steven Kajic is at Okanagan College in Kelowna and Josh Bray is at SIAST Parkland College in Melville, Saskatchewan.

All players who play in the WHL are eligible to receive the WHL scholarship. For every season a player plays in the WHL, they receive a full year guaranteed WHL Scholarship, including tuition, textbooks and compulsory fees, to a post-secondary institution of their choice. In addition, over 100 current WHL players receive financial assistance for education expenses to enroll in post secondary classes while playing throughout the course of the season. The WHL and Athabasca University recently entered into a new partnership that offers, through online and other distance education vehicles, fully accredited university courses to any WHL player interested in further pursuing post-secondary studies while playing in the WHL.

The WHL continues to be the leading provider of Hockey Scholarships in Western Canada. Since 1993, the Western Hockey League has awarded more than 3,500 Scholarships representing a contribution of more than $11 million.

Forward Taylor Orser Joins Cougars

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Tuesday the Cougars have added 19-year old forward Taylor Orser to the roster.

Connolly Named To Team WHL

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars forward Brett Connolly has been selected to represent the WHL on November 26 in Kelowna, when Team WHL faces off with Team Russia, as part of the Subway Super Series.

Connolly has recorded four goals and six points in seven games this season, which includes a hat-trick September 26 in Chilliwack. “It’s a great honor to be named to the team,” says Connolly, the CHL Rookie of the Year in 2008-09. “This is a great opportunity for me to play with the best players in our league and to play against very skilled players from Russia.”

The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Western Hockey League and SUBWAY® today announced the rosters for Team WHL competing in the 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series.

The 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series will take place November 16 – 26 and marks the seventh straight year that teams of CHL All-Stars have competed against Team Russia in preparation for the World Junior Hockey Championships. The SUBWAY® Super Series is an integral part of the evaluation process prior to Team Canada’s final selection camp in December. This season, Canada will be competing for a record sixth straight gold medal at the 2010 tournament in Saskatoon and Regina, SK.

Team WHL will face Team Russia in games five and six of the series played Wednesday, November 25 in Victoria, BC, and on Thursday, November 26 in Kelowna, BC. The first two games of the series are hosted by the QMJHL with the OHL hosting games three and four.

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- Reading will reap rewards for local elementary students as the Prince George Free Press and the Prince George Cougars partner on the Breakaway for Books reading program this season. Seven Cougars will visit two kindergarten classes at Ron Brent Elementary on Monday, November 2^nd for the program launch.

The program, aimed at grades K-3, will stress the importance of reading and provide Cougars tickets to students who complete reading goals assigned by their teachers. All students who participate will also receive coupons for individual size pizzas, courtesy of Panago.

“The Prince George Free Press is pleased to team up with the Prince George Cougars and Panago to present the Breakaway for Books promotion. Goalie Hudson Stremmel Goes From Tigers To Cougars

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Tuesday the Cougars have added 18-year old goaltender Hudson Stremmel to the roster.

Stremmel, who hails from Reno, Nevada, comes to the Cougars after starting the 2009-10 season with the NCAA Division 1 Colorado College Tigers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Last year, Stremmel played for the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League, going 18-14-1-2 with a goals against average of 3.19 and an .895 save percentage.

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars invite fans to join the team to support the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and celebrate Halloween this weekend as the Cougars battle the Tri-City Americans.

On Friday, October 30^th, the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be selling Frightlites as they promote cystic fibrosis awareness and raise money to fund programs that support Canadians living with cystic fibrosis. The Frightlites will be sold in Section X and are designed to be worn over a child’s costume to make them more visible to vehicles while they are trick-or-treating.

The following evening, Saturday, October 31^st, the Cougars have teamed up with 99.3 The Drive for Halloween Family Fun Night. Young fans can join Cougars staff for fun and games on the concourse, including a haunted house colouring contest and bean bag toss.

Jerseys will be awarded to two Cougars fans in the categories of Best Costume 12 & Under and Best Costume 13 & Over, with other great prizes for Honorable Mentions. Kids in costume are encouraged to trick-or-treat at all concession stands, at the Spirit Bear in Section Z and in The Cougars Store courtesy of Eurest, CN Centre and the Prince George Cougars.

The players will join members of the Prince George Minor Hockey Association as they skate laps and participate in drills on Sunday, November 29th. The fundraiser will take place at the Kin Centre.

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars have added a goaltender to the roster by obtaining 19-year old Prince George product Alex Wright.

The Cougars become the third Western Hockey League team for Wright, who played one game for the Medicine Hat Tigers in 2006-07 and one game for the Spokane Chiefs last year. Wright started this season with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BC Hockey League, going 5-7-0-0 in 14 games, with a 3.17 goals against average and a .893 save percentage.

Prince George, BC – Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Thursday the acquisition of 20-year old forward Del Cowan. The Cougars claimed Cowan from the 20-year old waiver draft.

Cowan has played his entire Western Hockey League career in Brandon, breaking in with the Wheat Kings in the 2007-08 season. Cowan scored 12 goals and 22 points last season in 64 games and had two goals in seven games this season with the Wheat Kings.

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars announced Wednesday defenceman Tyler Miller has been reassigned to the Merritt Centennials of the BC Hockey League.

Miller played two games for the Cougars this season, including his first Western Hockey League game on September 19. Miller had no points and nine penalty minutes.

The 6’2”, 210 pound product of Prince George played 28 games for the BCHL’s Westside Warriors last season, scoring one goal and two assists and had 48 penalty minutes.

The entire team, along with coaches and office staff, will attend the Run on Sunday, October 4^thwhich kicks off at the Prince George Civic Centre at 9:30am. The Run follows the Pink Power Play game at CN Centre on Saturday, October 3^rd which aims to raise awareness and funds for the CBCF.

The Cougars will model pink skate laces, pink sock and stick tape as they take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the October 3^rd game. Cougars fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game for a chance to win prizes including a grand prize package featuring a pair of Cougars tickets, a $50 gift certificate courtesy of Tony Roma’s and a bouquet of flowers courtesy of Grower Direct each month for the rest of the regular season. Eleven breast cancer survivors will enjoy the game from the suite courtesy of the Cougars.

Thiessen Returns To Cougars

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars will have another home grown product in their line-up for opening night Friday against the Spokane Chiefs.

General Manager Dallas Thompson announced Wednesday the Cougars have acquired 20-year old defenceman and Prince George product Garrett Thiessen from the Edmonton Oil Kings. Thiessen becomes the fourth Cougars player with Prince George roots, joining Brett Connolly, Tyler Miller and Daniel Gibb. With the acquisition of Thiessen, the Cougars have four over-age players on the roster, which they can carry until the October 16^th 20-year old cut down day.

“With the long-term injury to Dallas Jackson, we’re pleased to add Garrett for more experience on the back end,” said Thompson. “This is an opportunity for Garrett to continue his WHL career in Prince George.”

Thiessen was drafted by current Cougars Head Coach Dean Clark with the Kamloops Blazers in the sixth round of the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft. After playing 22 games with the Blazers, the Cougars acquired Thiessen in the 2006-07 season and played 104 games with the Cougars, with a goal and seven assists, to go along with 236 penalty minutes over two years. Last season, Thiessen played for the Prince Albert Raiders, playing 68 games, including a playoff tie-breaker, collecting 9 assists and 125 penalty minutes.

The Cougars roster now includes 26 players, with 13 forwards, 11 defencemen and two goaltenders. The Cougars open the regular season Friday against the Spokane Chiefs, starting at 7:00 at CN Centre. The Cougars annual tailgate party will kick off at 5:00 at the CN Centre parking lot.

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Cougars are very pleased to announce that the City of Prince George has declared Friday September 18^th, 2009 Brett Connolly Day. On Brett Connolly Day, Rogers Sportsnet and Rat Films will be back in Prince George for Opening Night to film the final installment of the show “The Rookies”, which will air nationally in March. The Prince George Cougars invite fans to pack CN Centre on Friday, September 18^th to show the rest of Canada how passionate the City is about Cougars hockeyand help the Cougars kick off the team’s 16^th Western Hockey League season in BC’s Northern Capital.

Festivities will get underway with the annual Cougars Tailgate Party starting at 5:00pm, which runs until puck drop for the Cougars first game of the regular season against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:00pm.

Save On Foods will be selling hot dogs, provided by Maple Leaf Foods, and pop, with all proceeds to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George. Big Brothers Big Sisters will offer face-painting at the event for a donation. Cougars Add Defenceman Kurt Torbohm

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars have acquired 19-year old defenceman Kurt Torbohm from the Kamloops Blazers, in exchange for the Cougars sixth round pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.

Torbohm has played his entire WHL career with the Blazers, after being selected in the 5^th round of the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft by Kamloops. The product of Chase, BC, has played 99 regular season games in the WHL, with 5 assists and 149 penalty minutes over that span, including 110 penalty minutes last year in 59 games. Torbohm also adds size to the Cougars blue line, standing 6’3” and weighs 208 pounds.

The Cougars have also reassigned 20-year old forward Jordan Lane.

Cougars Roster Sits At 25

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars roster is trimmed down to 25 players following the Everett Silvertips Pre-Season Tournament, which saw the Cougars go 1-1-0-1, with a 2-1 victory Sunday over the Tri-City Americans.

Eight players, six forwards and two defencemen, were reassigned by the Cougars. The forwards include 18-year old Justin Bertow, 17-year old Bobby Asham, 16-year olds Caleb Belter, Wilson Dumais and John Odgers and 15-year old Troy Bourke. The Cougars also sent 15-year old defencemen Josh Smith and Dane Phaneuf back to their respective midget clubs.

The Cougars currently have 14 forwards, nine defencemen and two goalies on the roster. The Cougars finish the exhibition schedule with a home-and-home series with the Kamloops Blazers, starting Friday night in Kamloops. The Cougars will host the Blazers Saturday night at CN Centre, starting with puck drop at 7:00pm. The regular season begins September 18 when the Spokane Chiefs visit the Cougars at CN Centre.

Cougars Sign John Odgers

Prince George Cougars Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel Wade Klippenstein announced Friday the team has signed 15-year old forward John Odgers to a standard Western Hockey League agreement.

Odgers, who turns 16 years old on September 15, is a walk on with the Cougars this season. The 5’11”, 178 pound forward from Spy Hill, Saskatchewan played Midget AA for the Yorkton Terriers of the South Saskatchewan Hockey League, where he collected eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points over 33 games. Odgers also had 33 penalty minutes.

“John plays a style of game that any head coach would appreciate,” says Klippenstein. “He’s a hard working, honest player and we look forward to him playing for the Cougars some day.”

Odgers, who is with the club in Everett, is ecstatic about his signing. “It’s not a real big step from here to the NHL, so it means a lot for me to be on the ice with these guys and wear that WHL sweater in practice,” says Odgers. “I just came to camp hoping to get listed. I was praying to make the intrasquad game, let alone go to Everett, so this is an incredible experience.”

Odgers’ father is Cougars scout and former NHL player Jeff Odgers, who played 831 regular season games with the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and Atlanta Thrashers between 1991 and 2003, collecting 75 goals and 70 assists for 145 points and posting 2,364 penalty minutes. Jeff also played in the WHL, playing for the Brandon Wheat Kings from 1986 and 1990.

Cougars To Be Featured On Rogers Sportsnet

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars will be the focus of a six episode program called “The Rookies”, which will air nationally on Rogers Sportsnet during the 2009-10 Western Hockey League Season.

The show will be produced by Rat Films, based in Montreal, with the production crew following six rookies trying out for the Cougars. It will profile these players and their training camp experience, from their arrival to the arena until their return home. The program will focus on their moments in the dressing room, their pre-season exhibition games and finally opening night as the successful rookies skate onto the ice for their first WHL game. Each player will have a microphone during practices and games so viewers can listen to what is being said on the ice and on the bench. Coaches and team staff will also have a microphone from time to time. The Cougars will allow unprecedented access to players, dressing room and scouts meetings to assist the film crew in capturing the footage they need to create this series.

The Rat Films crew, led by producer Alex Taillon, will follow the team to the Cougars first pre-season game against the Seattle Thunderbirds September 4 in Everett, Washington. They will return to Prince George to continue filming when the Cougars open the season September 18 against the Spokane Chiefs.

The concept of “The Rookies” was originally produced in French and broadcasted on RDS in the winter of 2008. “Les Recrues” aired seven episodes following seven players at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Chicoutimi Sagueneens’ training camp.

“We are very excited about the opportunity for our team along with the city of Prince George to be put in the national spotlight this season. I believe this event could be huge not only for the Cougars, but the city of Prince George. The final date of filming will be Sept 18, our opening night. We hope all our fans and local media will come out to support the team and rock the building as we showcase our enthusiasm for junior hockey to the rest of the nation,” says Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky.

“The Rookies” will make its debut on Rogers Sportsnet in March 2010. Prince George Cougars Training Camp opens today with registration starting at noon and the first on-ice session at 3:00pm.

Cougars Unveil New Uniforms, STH Ticket Pickup Party

Prince George, BC - The Prince George Cougars are thrilled to invite fans and media to CN Centre on Wednesday, September 9 at 9:00am, as the team unveils their new jerseys for the upcoming 2009-10 Western Hockey League season.

The Cougars will showcase the new Reebok Edge Jersey in Section C of the concourse at CN Centre. A two minute video will be featured on the centre ice scoreboard explaining how the Edge Design was created, the prototyping process and what tests were conducted to allow Reebok to come up with the most effective design for high level hockey.

A variety of players will be on hand along with new head coach Dean Clark, for a meet and greet with fans and media. Refreshments will be available. Fans will also get an opportunity to purchase the new uniforms as they will go on sale in the Cougars store immediately following the media conference. For an added bonus, the first 25 people to buy the new Reebok Edge Jersey will also receive a complimentary Reebok CHL toque.

Ticketmaster will open early, at 9:30am on September 9 for Cougars Season Ticket Holders to pick up their season ticket packages.

18 Year Old Goalie James Priestner Becomes A Cougar

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars and Brandon Wheat Kings have finalized a trade that sees the Cougars acquire 18-year old goaltender James Priestner.

Along with Priestner, the Cougars get a conditional fifth round pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, in exchange for a third round selection in the 2011 draft and 19-year old defenceman Aaron Ness.

Priestner played 29 games for the Wheat Kings during the 2008-09 season, going 17-7-1-1 with a 3.08 goals against average and a save percentage of 88.3%. The 6’0”, 170 pound Edmonton product has 57 regular season and playoff games under his belt in the Western Hockey League with Wheat Kings and Kamloops Blazers.

“We’re very pleased with the acquisition of James,” said Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson. “We’re now in a spot where we have a guy who we think is a capable starter in the WHL and it also frees up options for us with our 20-year old situation.”

Priestner is well known to Cougars Head Coach Dean Clark, who drafted Priestner in the second round of the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft while with the Blazers. “I think with his age, I think he’s someone that fits in very well with our team right now and knowing that he’ll be with us as the team grows, I’m very excited to have him on board.” Adds Clark.

Aaron Ness was on the Cougars 50-man protected list and played last season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, collecting two goals and 15 assists in 37 games. Ness, from Roseau, Minn., is a 2^nd round pick (40^th overall) of the New York Islanders in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
