The Prince George Cougars Adopt-a-School program was a new partnership developed in 2009 between local businesses, Prince George elementary schools and the Prince George Cougars. The program aims at recognizing and rewarding local elementary students who contribute to improving themselves and their schools.
If you are interested in sponsoring an elementary school for the 2010/2011 season, phone Andy or Amy at the Cougars office at 250-561-0783.
School Adoption
- Businesses are paired with a specific school for the entire season; schools are chosen by the sponsor business, if desired, or designated by the Prince George Cougars.
- A school may be sponsored by only one business per season in order to ensure that the Adopt a School program benefits as many students as possible.
- The opportunity exists for local businesses, small, medium or large, to connect with students on a unique interactive level. Regular communication is made with the schools by our coordinators and the emphasis is placed on the sponsor of the adopted school.
- Schools will focus on using the tickets to reward students for improving themselves or their schools; this may include academic or athletic achievement, random acts of kindness, volunteer work, or any other criteria agreed upon by the sponsor business and school.
- The tickets can be used to enhance current programs already offered by the sponsor school.
School Feedback
- "The students from Kindergarten to grade 7 are divided into six House Teams...The students that do good things throughout the week get a 'Caught Being Good' ticket and points added to their house team...having Cougars tickets for Friday and Saturday night games was great. It gave the chance for 6 students to win a ticket for them and an adult." Madeleine Crandell, Principal, Ecole College Heights Elementary School
- "We have 182 students who attend Pinewood and they were thrilled to have the opportunity to receive a pair of tickets to attend a home game this season. Because of businesses like [IRL Supplies], student opportunities and experiences are enhanced. Our children had an excellent experience with the program, and we would not have been able to afford the opportunity otherwise." Debbie Kaban, Principal, Pinewood Elementary School
- "The program was very successful. We used tickets as incentives and appreciation for students in many areas. Our focus was primarily on behaviour and making good choices both on the playground and in the classroom. We also acknowledged individual academic achievements; the games were fantastic motivators for many of our students." Stacey Third, Community School Coordinator, Harwin Elementary School
- "The youth and adult season tickets we received allowed families who otherwise might not have been able to attend games to enjoy a family hockey experience. We appreciate the support of local businesses to promote community events such as these and to supplement the programs we are able to offer our students and families." Kathryn Richardson, Principal, Westwood Elementary School
