The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that defenseman Ty Wishart was selected 16th overall in the 1st Round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks traded 2 draft picks, allowing them to move up 4 spots in the draft to select Wishart 16th overall. Wishart, who was the 2nd defenseman selected in the Entry Draft, ended his 2005/06 campaign with 5 goals, 32 assists, for 37 points in 70 games played for the Cougars. The Prince George Cougars have acquired 19 year old defenseman Vladimir Mihalik (“Ma-Hah-Lick”) from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for a 4th round Bantam selection in 2008. Mihalik, a 6’8”, 234 lbs. 1st round (30th overall) selection of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2005, suited up in 62 games with the Rebels last season, registering 3 goals, 9 assists, 12 points, and 86 PIM. With the 12th overall pick in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, the Prince George Cougars have selected right defenseman Stefan (“Steph-ANN”) Elliott of the North Shore Winter Club. Elliott, a product of North Vancouver, BC, stands 6’0”, and weighs in at 165 lbs. In 39 games with the North Shore Winter Club this season, Elliott registered 25 goals, 60 assists, and 36 PIM’s.
