Your Prince George Cougars....

Prince George Cougars fans have frequently been called the loudest in hockey…and for good reason. There has been plenty to cheer about since the franchise moved north in 1994 from Victoria.

The Cougars have been well received since they arrived to BC’s Northern Capital. At the end of their third season in Prince George, the love affair between the Cougars and their fans went to the next level. At the end of the 1996-97 season, the “Cats” went on a playoff run that has become legendary around the WHL. The sixth place Cougars upset the top ranked Portland Winter Hawks in the first round of the post season, and then eliminated the third ranked Spokane Chiefs in round two. Since then, the Cougars have produced many household names that include such notable stars as Trent Hunter, Blair Betts, Tyler Bouck, Zdeno Chara, Eric Brewer, and Dan Hamhuis.

Off the ice, the Cougars are proud of the commitment its players and staff have made to become active members within Prince George’s various community initiatives and charity programs. Last season alone, Cougar players and staff dedicated numerous hours each month to community events and charity fundraisers. Moreover, Cougar players visit Prince George schools each season discussing the importance of balancing both sports and school, and the benefits of leading a positive, healthy life.

Furthermore, the Cougars participate in several additional programs including visits to various business sectors within Prince George, Non-Profit organizations, minor hockey sessions, and community functions.
