Wishart To Captain Canada by PG Cougars

Wishart To Captain Canada Prince George Cougars defenseman Ty Wishart has been named Captain of Canada’s 2006 IIHF Under-18 Team . Canada is set to compete in the 2006 IIHF World Under-18 Championship in Angelholm and Halmstad, Sweden, from April 12-22. Wishart, a product of Comox BC, finished 17th overall in scoring among defenseman in the WHL with 5G, 32A, 37 pts in 70 games during the regular season. Wishart was also named Team Cherry player of the game at this year’s CHL/NHL Top Prospect Game after registering 2 assists. Forwards Ben Maxwell of the Kootenay Ice and Jamie McGinn of the Ottawa 67’s have been named alternates.

Canada will open the World U-18 Championship on Wednesday versus Slovakia. After Slovakia, Canada plays Norway on Thursday, Sweden on Saturday and Finland on Monday, with the tournament scheduled to end on April 22. Team Canada were 1-0-1 in exhibition play, tying Sweden 2-2 and defeating Germany 8-1.

TSN/RDS, the official broadcaster of Hockey Canada, will carry games LIVE from Sweden and the IIHF World Under-18 Championship, beginning with Canada’s fourth game, on April 17th versus Finland (check local listings).
